Rainwater Storage
for water-scarce communities
2,500-litre Rotoplast household rainwater storage tanks are provided to families experiencing the most severe water insecurity. These tanks allow households to store piped water when it arrives and harvest rainwater throughout the year, dramatically reducing the physical burden on women and ensuring a safer, more consistent water supply.
local challenges
Chronic water scarcity continues to challenge rural Indigenous families in Comitancillo, where seasonal droughts and fragile water sources leave many communities without reliable access to clean water. Women and children often spend hours each day collecting water from distant rivers and communal taps, limiting time for childcare, education, weaving, farming, and other income-generating activities.

transformative solution
Each family receives installation support, hands-on training in safe storage and water conservation, and ongoing monitoring from local technicians. This simple yet transformative solution equips families with long-term resilience against drought, restores time and dignity to women and girls, and strengthens household health and well-being across Comitancillo’s most water-insecure Indigenous communities.
In 2025, 98 families across eight communities received tanks paired with gutters, filters, and tap systems, and households reported marked improvements in hygiene, reduced waterborne illness, and expanded capacity for home gardens and small-scale agricultural production. Women especially benefited from reduced workloads and regained hours of daily time for childcare, weaving, and community leadership. This ongoing project builds on this recent success.
