Where: Chateau Louis Hotel & Conference Centre Grand Ballroom, Edmonton

MC: Media celebrity and musician, Mark Scholz

Special Guest: Ruben Feliciano, Coordinator of partner organization, AMMID | Comitancillo, Guatemala

Ruben founded AMMID, an indigenous rights development organization working to address food shortage and protect the rights of the Mayan Mam peoples, almost 20 years ago. Change for Children has partnered with Ruben and AMMID since the organization’s inception and is proud of what we have accomplished together. Our partnership has resulted in the construction of six primary and secondary schools in the region, investments in educational training and tools for teachers, numerous advances in sustainable agriculture, improved nutrition and maternal and child health in indigenous communities, support for economic development initiatives in  two dental brigades to the region.

Ruben will share his experiences working on economic and social development for the past 25 years in this region that receives very little government support due to its remote and indigenous population. AMMID focuses on promoting cultural identity and uses traditional knowledge to create innovative solutions that combat poverty and create lasting and sustainable change.

Support of this event will contribute to water systems, school expansions, and nutrition projects in Comitancillo, Guatemala.
