All Change for Children brigade volunteers will be expected to adhere to the following guidelines for ethical behaviour.
As guests in a foreign country, we represent Canada, our professions, and Change for Children. The continued success of Change for Children brigades depends upon the ethical conduct of its representatives and volunteers. It is our responsibility to travel with humility, compassion, and professionalism and to respect the ethics and morals of the areas we are visiting, while having a genuine desire to learn more about the host country and its people.
Volunteer agrees to:
*
Maintain high standards of personal and professional conduct that are respectful the local community, customs and culture, and consistent with the mission and reputation of Change for Children.
Treat local people, students, volunteers, host partners, and others with respect, dignity, and sensitivity, and to challenge any form of harassment, discrimination, intimidation, exploitation or abuse.
Perform professional duties with integrity, and contribute to a safe and health working environment characterized by non-discrimination and a respect for all peoples’ rights, including children’s rights.
Respect the purpose of the brigade and contribute to achieving the goals as set out.
Volunteer understands that:
*
Violating any law of the host country is unacceptable. Acquaint yourself with local customs.
Consumption of alcohol at work sites and at official meetings is prohibited and should be moderated at all other times.
Use of illegal drugs is strictly prohibited.
All clothing should be appropriate – comfortable and modest.
Caution should be exercised when taking photos. Photographing local people and what is considered sacred to them should be done with reservation. It is respectful to ask permission in advance.
I have read the above and understand that violating any of the guidelines for ethical behaviour may result in my participation being terminated and/or being denied future opportunities to participate in the activities of Change for Children.
